Regina Experimental Biarritz: the iconic address between downtown and ocean

regina experimental location

The perfect location for your stay

Perched on the lighthouse cliff, with a majestic view of the Atlantic, the Regina Experimental Biarritz embodies a vision of luxury that is both patrimonial and contemporary. This emblematic five-star hotel of the Biarritz landscape, brilliantly renovated by the Experimental group, offers much more than a simple hotel stay: it is an immersion in history, design and the sweetness of life of the Basque Country.

From the entrance, you are struck by the architecture of the place, classified among the jewels of the Belle Époque. Inaugurated in 1907, the hotel was one of the first to welcome European high society on the Basque coast. Its central atrium, crowned by a 15-meter glass roof, still retains all its splendor today, reinterpreted in a resolutely modern spirit.

A strategic location in Biarritz

Located on the lighthouse road, only a ten-minute walk from downtown, the Regina Experimental Biarritz benefits from an exceptional location. It overlooks the coast and offers unobstructed views of the ocean, while allowing quick access to beaches, shops, museums and restaurants in the city. The train station and Basque Country airport are accessible in just a few minutes, Bordeaux airport in two hours, and the Spanish city of San Sebastian is 30 minutes away.

Between Belle Époque and assumed modernity

The original building, signed by architect Henry Martinet, has been magnificently transformed by decorator Dorothée Meilichzon. Her approach blends neo-Basque design codes with elements inspired by the sea, Japan, and the Art Deco movement. Rooms, bathed in light, are decorated in natural tones of blue, white, straw and mint green. Moldings inspired by ropes, curved mirrors, artisan ceramics and murals come together to create an immersive and singular universe.

In common areas, every detail tells a story. Curved furniture, paper lights, natural textures and marine nods work together to create an atmosphere that is both elegant and warm. The atrium, beating heart of the hotel, is both meeting place, cocktail bar and relaxation lounge, animated at certain times by piano notes in a hushed atmosphere.

A gastronomic experience designed in two stages

At midday, guests can sit down under the great glass roof of the atrium for a luminous lunch. A friendly menu, inspired by seasonal products, is offered in a spirit of sharing and refined simplicity. The setting, between interior palms and design banquettes, is conducive to relaxation.

In the evening, place to the gastronomy signed Grégory Marchand. The restaurant Frenchie Biarritz, open only for dinner, celebrates inventive cuisine rooted in Basque terroir. The chef there revisits local products of exception—Banka trout, Gascon black pork, line-caught hake—with the creativity and precision that made his reputation in Paris and internationally. The experience is intimate, the service attentive, and each dish carries a strong identity.

Wellness and bespoke services

The spa of the Regina Experimental Biarritz extends the sensory experience. Developed around the Austrian brand Susanne Kaufmann, it offers a range of holistic treatments based on natural ingredients and an approach respectful of the environment. In this soothing space, inspired by raw materials and soft colors, one comes to recharge after a day of discoveries or sports.

The hotel also makes available to its guests an attentive concierge service, capable of organizing personalized experiences: golf at the Phare, surf lessons, diving, boat trips, yoga or even private tours. Everything is designed so that the stay adapts to wishes, in a setting as inspiring as comfortable.

A living memory, rooted in Biarritz's history

The Regina Experimental Biarritz is not just a hotel. It is a witness to the city's past. Military hospital during the First World War, American university center after 1945, it has crossed the ages without ever losing its soul. Its rebirth under the momentum of the Experimental group makes it today a unique address, where each stay becomes an interlude of style and culture.

By choosing the Regina Experimental Biarritz, you choose a place of character, a signature of contemporary hospitality, at the crossroads of history, design and the Basque way of life.
